About This Blog
My husband (Dave) passed away on September 20, 2012 after a 7-month battle with non-small cell adenocarcinoma of the lung (lung cancer). I can still hear the oncologist’s words, quiet and distinct, delivered to us on February 13, 2012. At that time, he was stage IV. Assuming treatments went well, the doctors predicted a life expectancy of 3+ years. After a rough first part of the year, Dave experienced three months of improvements and a near-return to normalcy. Then our world turned upside seemingly overnight. We didn’t get our 3 years.
Dave and I spent more than 27 years together as a married couple, plus another five prior to that. We have two beautiful children – both adults now. We were more than a couple – we were best friends, lovers, partners, two halves to a whole, confidants, and soul mates. We each had found the perfect mate in the other, complete with our happily ever after. For a while.
A New Side To Normal is about my life encounters as a recent widow. It’s small snippets of my journey through the grieving process as I find a new normal. My goal is to stay strong, hold Dave’s presence close to my heart, and seek the humor in every tough situation. But more than for myself, I hope that I may someday help someone else get through this pain. It’s not like there’s a right or wrong way to grieve – so long as we do.
Thanks for stopping by . . .

Hi Debbie-
Here’s a virtual hug from a fellow traveler on the path to New Normal. I could quote your description of our relationship (best friends, etc.,) start to finish.
Please let me know if you need a fellow sojourner.
